Culture and Mourning at the Islamic Center of Nashville
Last week, Alive hosted our latest Culture and Mourning event at the Islamic Center of Nashville, and we’re so grateful to everyone who attended, participated, and volunteered. It was a truly beautiful day filled with learning, connection, and shared experiences.
The event began with a warm welcome from Imam Ossama Bahloul, who graciously shared insights into the basic principles of Islam. Attendees gained a deeper understanding of the faith’s traditions, rituals, and the ways the Islamic community supports one another through end-of-life and grief. These conversations highlighted the universal need for compassion and care during life’s most difficult moments, as well as the unique ways different cultures approach them.
Following the discussion, we enjoyed a delicious, homemade traditional Islamic lunch, lovingly catered by a member of the mosque. This meal was not just a culinary experience but a reflection of the hospitality and generosity at the heart of the community.
One attendee beautifully summed up the event: “I love this series; we are all connected more than we are separate.”
We are excited to continue fostering these meaningful connections and expanding the Culture and Mourning series in 2025. If you have ideas for future events or direct connections to communities we could collaborate with, please reach out to Laura Clark at Lclark@alivehospice.org.
