Our Speakers:
Maureen Rieck, Social Worker
Maureen Rieck has been a dedicated social worker for 20 years, with the past three spent at Alive. She finds deep fulfillment in working alongside compassionate nurses to build trust with patients and families, bringing them comfort and peace through education and support. Inspired by the privilege of witnessing the natural dying process, Maureen believes it holds profound beauty and mystery. She was drawn to hospice work after witnessing difficult deaths in the ICU and wanting to foster better conversations around end-of-life care. Known for her empathy and honesty, Maureen values building meaningful connections and having open, heartfelt discussions with families. Her guiding words come from St. Teresa of Avila: “Let nothing disturb you. Let nothing frighten you. All things pass. God never changes. Patience attains all that is strived for. Whoever has God lacks nothing. God alone suffices.”
Andy Ingram, Hospice Chaplain
Andy Ingram has been a chaplain since 2017, serving in both hospital and hospice settings. Since joining Alive over five years ago, he has continued his passion for end-of-life care, which began during his time in Vanderbilt’s Palliative Care Unit. Andy finds inspiration in the resilience of the human spirit, witnessing the courage and vulnerability of patients as they reflect on life’s joys, regrets, and opportunities for reconciliation. He believes in the power of listening and presence, offering comfort in life’s most difficult moments. With a natural curiosity and a calming presence, Andy helps patients and families find peace when they need it most. He holds close the words of Henri Nouwen: “The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares.”
