The “most wonderful” time of the year can be anything but when you are grieving the loss of a loved one. Whether you are grieving a loss or supporting someone who is, Alive’s Grief Center has special holiday offerings to help, including a 5-week holiday grief support group (starting 12/1), Hope for the Holidays seminar (12/7), Tinsel and Tears expressive arts workshop (12/8), and The Longest Night service (12/21).

How can you support a grieving friend during the holidays?

- Support their choices. Invite, don’t push.
- Stay flexible. Don’t take last minute changes personally!
- Attend Alive’s Hope for the Holidays to learn more.
Coping with grief in the holidays can be a little easier with a plan.
- Acknowledge this year is different. You may want traditions more than ever or you may find relief in doing something new.
- Utilize time limits at social events if you need more time to yourself.

12/1 Five-Week Holiday Series Forming Now!
This Life After Loss: Surviving the Holidays virtual support group launches 12/1 and is for men and women seeking practical coping strategies during the holidays after the death of a loved one. Groups will meet for five consecutive Thursdays from 6:00-7:30m p.m. with topics to be discussed including dealing with hard-hitting emotions, what to do about traditions, how to survive social events, and where to find comfort and strength.

12/7 Hope for the Holidays
If you are facing grief at the “most wonderful time of the year,” or would like to support someone who is, please join us for this seminar on 12/7 while we find Hope for the Holidays. The holiday focus on togetherness, gratitude, and celebration can present a challenge for those of us who have lost someone important and make the space they left empty all the more real. 12/8 Tinsel & Tears Workshop
Join us on 12/8 for this holiday workshop, designed specifically for grieving children and adults of all ages. Participants will enjoy our special hot chocolate bar while creating unique holiday-themed memory items. Alive’s grief counselors will provide tips and strategies for incorporating your loved one into holiday traditions. Register here.
12/21 Longest Night Service
On 12/21, Alive grief counselors and chaplains will lead this winter solstice service for people of all faiths as we explore loss from a spiritual perspective. Register here.
