Photo: Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

The white sarcophagus is the final resting place of the Unknown Soldier of World War I. The inlaid rectangular marble slabs are the crypts of unknown soldiers from World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. The inscription on the tomb reads: “Here rests in honored glory / an American soldier known but to God.” (Photo by Barbara Cannon)
